Celebrating our 75-year history!

The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (now HSPC) was founded in 1949 by a small group of dedicated individuals drawn together in the common cause of accident prevention. It grew from a provincially based organization to become Canada's largest national and most established professional organization for health and safety practitioners. Today, HSPC has almost 3,500 members across Canada and around the world working together to enhance the health and safety profession.

We are creating a timeline of our history and would like you to share your memorabilia and memories. For this year's professional development conference in Edmonton, we are planning an exhibit that includes a display of "artifacts" spanning as much of the 75-year history as we can. Your input to this initiative is encouraged and will be very much appreciated!

Specifically, we are looking for the following:

  • members who are willing to be interviewed, either by video or audio;
  • written memories about local events, professional connections, conferences, educational experiences, past events, NAOSH events, local conferences, etc.;
  • photos, video clips, or other visual material you can share with us;
  • CSSE "ephemera": brochures, pamphlets, conference materials, "swag," pins, posters, etc.

This timeline will also have an ongoing presence on the HSPC website as a legacy to our history and the role we and our members have had—and continue to have—in advancing the health and safety profession.

Please contact us at  [email protected] for more information or if you can help us celebrate this milestone!
