Electronic vote on organizational identity
APRIL 27, 2023
At the April 19, 2023 AGM a motion was brought forward by Christl Aggus, President of the Board, to ratify the decision from the Board for an identity transition from the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering to “Health and Safety Professionals Canada / Professionnels de la santé et sécurité du Canada.”
The vote was called at 25 in favour, 21 opposed and 3 in abstaining from vote. The motion was carried.
Within 24 hours of the AGM and in the spirit of transparency and inclusivity, the Board issued an electronic survey of the entire membership for an electronic vote on the new name.
Between April 20, 2023 and April 26, 2023 at 5 p.m. PST, we received:
408 survey replies in favour of the identity transition to Health and Safety Professionals Canada
214 survey replies opposed to the identity transition to Health and Safety Professionals Canada
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the 622 members who quickly responded to our call for your opinion on this crucial decision.
In addition, we would like to thank the many members who actively participated in our consultation process prior to the AGM. Please see a summary of the key dates and consultation points with our members below.

To ensure we undertake a fiscally and environmentally responsible approach to this new identity transition, we will begin to gradually transition to our new brand beginning in mid-May.
As we begin to educate ever more Canadians on the importance of our work, and our membership next week during Safety and Health Week, we look forward to releasing details of our next consultation process on the creation of a new membership portal. The portal will allow us to better communicate, share and grow our ever-evolving mission, together.
Through your input on the brand, we have heard your call for more opportunities to engage before decisions are made, and initiatives are released. We remain committed to continuous improvement and we will continue to engage membership before key decisions and initiatives are taken.
