Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ NA is seeking an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our Regina team as Director, Safety Regina. This new role will lead our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team in the execution of our existing safety programs and work with all departments on safety related matters. The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading change by implementing strategies and best practices to advance our already outstanding safety culture. This position reports to the Vice-President of EHS.

  • Develop, strategize and implement a long-term plan for the EHS function
  • Oversee Health and Safety team, including team development and performance management
  • Influence Plant, Production, Operations, Maintenance and site management to drive EHS performance
  • Provide practical and technical expertise, advice and solutions to corporate and site management
  • Promote continuous improvement efforts in the EHS function, integrating tactical and strategic EHS planning
  • Monitor program compliance and conduct EHS audits
  • Review and revise and/or develop site safety processes, procedures, criteria, requirements, programs and methods to attain the best possible management of hazards and exposures and employee safety behaviors
  • Review and analyze plant’s safety performance and recommend and/or work with plant safety staff on areas for improvement and corrective action programs
  • Assess services, outcomes, methods and procedures using both qualitative and quantitative methods to recognize hazards and measure risks; analyzes trends from accident and injury logs and reports and other reports
  • Establish and manage overall contractor and vendor safety training and awareness programs
  • Assess effectiveness of and recommend changes or improvements to site’s overall safety and health training programs; seek to standardize and/or implement improvements including recommendations on training providers or vendors, methods, materials and technology
  • Participate as a member of the group’s Senior Management Safety Committee
  • Provides summary reports on plant safety records and programs highlighting any areas of concern or areas for improvement; on status of safety initiatives in progress and/or implemented
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with plant safety teams and other company Safety & Health professionals
  • Manage work place injuries within the Canadian health care system, offer leadership by sharing knowledge
  • Has experience and skill set in Canadian worker’s compensation system

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Safety Management
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in safety within manufacturing operations
  • Safety certification and/or record of ongoing safety, health and related training a plus
  • Experience managing professional safety team of at least five members • Knowledge of governmental regulations
  • Understand of operational safety procedures and practices, safety training and hazard control programs (personal protective equipment (PPE), fall-protection, lock-out/tag-out in manufacturing)
  • Must have experience in relationship management, strategy and planning
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel 30%, a valid passport and eligible to travel outside of Canada
