Position Overview

As our Occupational Health and Safety Manager, you will drive awareness and provide world-class safety advisory services to all our business units. You will be in constant pursuit of safety excellence and support all areas of the company to maintain the highest levels of safety.

In this role, you will:

  • Be accountable to ensure health and safety advisory resources and programs are available to our business units in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Proactively connect with business units to help maintain high safety standards

In year 1, you will:

  • Build a robust and dynamic internal OHS Advisory Service that makes a positive and tangible impact on our organizational safety performance
  • Mentor and coach, our frontline safety leaders through training and educational activities
  • Enhance the knowledge, understanding and application of our Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) Program
  • Support our Operational Learning programs and initiatives 
  • Build out our library of Job Hazard Analysis
  • Lead safety programs and initiatives in support of our high-risk strategy.
  • Review our high-risk inventory in year one
  • Support evaluation activities that provide a feedback loop on our safety defenses and safety management system. 

In year 2, you will:

  • Contribute to our safety management system evaluation and gap analysis against the best practice (COR, ISO 45001)
  • Obtain internal and external recognition for the OHS Advisory services practiced across the company
  • Further enhance our contractor safety management program, testing and evaluating against world class best practice
  • Partnering for progress with both internal and external stakeholders 
     

What it takes:

  • Bring a strong work ethic 
  • Technically sound in safety knowledge and best practices
  • A strong leader of people and programs; team oriented
  • Compliance experience, including experience working with regulators such as WorkSafeBC 
  • Understanding of human factors/human and organizational performance
  • Highly organized and efficient time manager
  • Coaching, mentoring, and motivating other around you
  • Solid communicator – written and oral
  • Knowledge and understanding of “Safety Differently” and the “New View of Safety”
  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations based on factual conclusions
  • Knowledge of the utility sector, generation through to transmission and distribution  
  • Canadian Registered Safety Practitioner (CRSP) or equivalent
