Following some time for networking and dinner, we will have a presentation by Andy Wood on Minimizing The Risk Of A Discriminatory Action Complaint

An employee who raises a health or safety issue in the workplace, and subsequently is penalized by the employer, may have grounds for filing a Discriminatory Action Complaint under the Workers Compensation Act (“Act”)

This presentation will examine:

  • What is a “discriminatory action complaint”;
  • The legal tests applicable to the adjudication of discriminatory action complaints;
  • Remedies for discriminatory actions;
  • Strategies and best practices for minimizing the risk of, and defending against a discriminatory action complaint.

Andy Wood is a Partner at Harris & Company LLP, Western Canada’s largest management-side workplace law and advocacy firm. The largest area of Andy’s practice is occupational health and safety law. He provides strategic advice and representation to both provincially and federally regulated employers in relation to occupational health and safety compliance matters, serious incident/fatality investigations, administrative penalty proceedings and regulatory offense prosecutions.
