Claim Investigations- Todd Wall & Jamie Tait

Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) provides Insurance coverage across Saskatchewan.  This presentation will provide insight on various types of Investigations SGI has conducted around insurance fraud.

 Todd Wall and Jamie Tait are special Investigators within the Special Investigations Unit for SGI and have Special Constable Status within the Province.


Basic Fundamentals of Incident Investigation – Neil Wylie 

This presentation is aimed at giving the attendees a short, but complete, overview of the fundamentals in carrying out incident investigations into workplace health and safety events. It is designed to provide insights into the core requirements of proper workplace investigations and the benefits of approaching investigations with diligence.

Neil Wylie is a former police officer and investigative practitioner with over 33 years’ experience working with investigators from municipal Police Services and RCMP across Canada. He has over 25 years of specialized training in investigations including forensic interviewing, statement analysis, incident scene examination and major case management. 


Investigations in an Adjudicative Environment – Dustin Small, BAPS

Conducting Fraud Investigations relating to the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board. The process and challenges of conducting criminal investigations within an adjudicative environment.

Dustin Small is a Special Constable and an Investigator for the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board. His back ground is Law Enforcement having a Degree in Police Studies from the U of R and was Regular Member of the RCMP.

Defending Against Occupational Health & Safety Charges – Amy Groothuis, Miller Thomson, LLP

It’s been said that the best defense is a good offence.  The first part of this session will provide proactive, preventative advice on how best to ensure OH&S charges are avoided.  The second part will review the legal defenses available in an OH&S prosecution, and how those can be advanced.

Amy Groothuis is a labour and employment lawyer with Miller Thomson’s Regina office.  She was previously General Counsel to the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission in Yellowknife, NWT and in that role oversaw OH&S prosecutions.
