About the Presentation

Two experienced occupational health and safety lawyers, from Mathews, Dinsdale & Clark LLP, including a former Ministry of Labour prosecutor, will comment on recent occupational health and safety developments arising from the courts, adjudicators and legislation. This quick-paced discussion will provide practical commentary and take-aways on a variety of issues and developments including: the relationship between the general duty clause and the regulations, recent and historic changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Criminal Code and workplace safety, sentencing developments, the scope of the workplace under the Canada Labour Code, and due diligence. In addition, the speakers will welcome any general OHS law questions whether related to one of the matters discussed or otherwise.

Deanah Shelly is an associate in the Toronto office of Mathews, Dinsdale & Clark and is a member of the firm’s national Occupational Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation Practice Group.  She has been practicing occupational health and safety law for more than 5 years and provides strategic and pragmatic advice on all matters involving workplace safety.  She also regularly represents employers and management in health and safety and other regulatory litigation.  In addition, Deanah conducts internal investigations on matters related to health and safety and conducts tailored training seminars for employers and management on all matters respecting workplace health and safety
