Developing Effective OHSE Training Courses is a two-day course that provides the OHSE practitioner, whether an internal or external consultant, with the introductory knowledge and skills to design effective training courses based on an analysis of organizational and employee needs. Filled with tools and strategies, the course will take course developers through needs analysis, instructional approaches, design and delivery processes, as well as assessment and evaluation elements within an overall Training Management Framework. The course will also assist decision-makers in evaluating the effectiveness of training courses already in place or courses identified for potential implementation. The course outcomes apply to multi-industry training programs.
While it will be touched upon, it should be noted that this course will not focus on the critical identification of training needs and options as this is offered in a separate
Successful completion of CSSE courses requires completion of an Exam with a minimum 75% standard. Exams require additional time commitment beyond in-class time for the student to demonstrate mastery of the course expectations.
Paula Andrade has been an instructor for Canadian Society of Safety Engineers since 2020. She is a graduate from Ryerson University Occupational Health and Safety Certificate program. Paula is a Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) and a registered member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers. She is also a Registered Nurse with a Bachelors in Nursing and is registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Paula retired from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) after over 20 years of service. During the course of her employment with WSIB, Paula worked as a Small Business Health and Safety Consultant and a Nurse Case Manager.
As a Small Business Health and Safety Consultant Paula worked with a variety of industries including Construction, Service Sector, Healthcare, Transportation, Manufacturing and Agriculture. Paula developed and delivered Health and Safety training to small business owners throughout Ontario, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. She assisted small businesses in the development, implementation and evaluation of their health and safety programs.
As a nurse case manager Paula was responsible for treatment-monitoring of clients who sustained work- related injuries. Utilized disability management principles, provided support and education to workers and employers regarding the compensation process, worker injury, approximate healing times, treatment options, injury prevention and medical restrictions. She assisted employers and workers in identifying barriers that prevented return to work, recommended possible alternatives and aided in the development of their return-to-work plans.
Paula has a particular interest in children and adults with congenital heart defects and in 2004 she co-founded the Canadian Congenital Heart Association a charitable organization increasing awareness and support for Canadians with this condition. She participated in developing strategies and implemented processes to advance the organization to national status.
Given Paula’s education, experience, legislative knowledge and unique understanding of the small business contributes to her success in assisting businesses to create and implement an effective health and safety programs.
