Spotlight on CSSE Members
Christian Fournier
A large part of CSSE’s success is due to passionate volunteers like Christian Fournier, who was awarded the 2021 Outstanding Service to CSSE (Volunteer of the Year) Award. The award recognizes a member who has demonstrated their commitment to volunteering at the chapter, regional, or national level.
Christian is an active leader and member of the CSSE organization, and is currently serving as the Atlantic Regional Vice President. Over the course of his more than 15-year membership with the organization, he has served on the CSSE’s New Brunswick Chapter Board of Directors as Director at Large, Second Vice Chair, Social Media Director, and Vice-Chair, and on CSSE’s Member Relations Committee.
Christian is passionate about safety, advocating for the cause in the workplace and the industry. He is the Health and Safety Superintendent at the Twin Rivers Paper Company. He holds both Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designations and regularly updates his industry knowledge through CSSE conferences, events, and other personal development offerings. Christian is a published author and has shared his health and safety expertise in several articles on websites and magazines internationally.
Christian’s contributions to CSSE over the years are countless. He has graciously lent his time and knowledge to a number of different areas of the organization, consistently going above and beyond to help others.
A notable example is Christian’s leadership in Safety and Health Week events. In 2021, the event couldn’t be held in person because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Christian didn’t hesitate, however. He took charge of the situation, coming up with a plan for a virtual event that included all of the five Atlantic-region chapters, thereby turning it into a regional event rather than a provincial one, as it had been in the past. This new approach to the event was well received by the participants and continued in 2022, with wide participation in a week-long series of professional development sessions delivered virtually, allowing all members from coast to coast to coast to participate.
