BC Lower Mainland: Cannabis Extraction Occupational Hazards

This month CSSE Lower Mainland chapter partnered with AIHA to invite you to network with our fellow colleagues!

The meeting will be held at BCIT on September 21st (see details below).

As per tradition, we will give our members the opportunity to network from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, during which pizza and refreshments will be served. Then we will invite our presenters to speak about Cannabis Extraction Occupational Hazards.

Topic Title : Cannabis Extraction Occupational Hazards

Speakers:

Kimiko Banati, C.P.H.I(C), Occupational Hygiene Officer, WorkSafeBC Prevention Field Service.

Davi de Ferreyro Monticelli, B.Eng Environmental Engineering, M.Sc. Environmental Engineering, Ph.D. Student at UBC and Vanier Scholar, Research Assistant at UBC.

About the topic:

Over the past decade, there has been a dramatic expansion of the cannabis industry. Although thousands of new employees are joining the workforce each year, little is known about the occupational hazards and potential health effects for workers involved in the cannabis process and extraction.

In this presentation, you will learn about:

  • the mechanisms used to process and extract cannabis
  • the hazards associated with the mechanisms
  • effective controls that can be used by the industry to minimize the risks
  • OHS challenges of the cannabis industry, and
  • health and safety resources available.
